Dishwasher Detergent

Dishwasher detergent is pretty cheap to buy in the store, but if you are looking to save a few cents and try to cut down on chemicals around the house, this is something you might be interested in making. Also, this is something that you can make with a few things you hopefully have on hand if you happen to run out of detergent.

Dishwasher Detergent

-2 cups borax
-2 cups washing soda
-1 cup citric acid
-1 cup salt
(essential oils can be added for scent, but are completely optional)

Mix all ingredients well and store in an air tight container. Use 1 tablespoon per dishwasher load. At only 1 tablespoon per load, this will last a LONG time!!

A friend told me that powdered lemonade mix can work instead of citric acid. I haven't tried that, but it would make sense since lemons/lemonade has citric acid in it.

If you are looking for a little extra boost for some extra dirty dishes 2-3 drops of liquid dishwashing soap can be added to the powder. White vinegar is also something that can be added if you want a rinse agent to help rinse those glasses and make them sparkly clean.
